Alastair David Houston was born in 1965 in Fairlie, Scotland, home of the renowned Fife yacht building yard. Coming from an artistic family, Houston began drawing and painting yachts when he was six years old. Over the years, he has developed what is surely one of the most deft water colour techniques in marine painting.
Alastair Houston's first exhibits were in 1989 at the Museum of Yachting in Newport, Rhode Island, and at the Royal Northern and the Royal Gourock Yacht Clubs in Scotland. He was immediately recognised as a significant talent and his career blossomed rapidly.
His many successful exhibits include: 1990 at the Herreshoff Museum in Bristol, RI and the Nioulargue Regatta in St. Tropez, France; 1991 in London and Barcelona, 1992 in Monaco; and 1993 at the Royal Glasgow Institute of Art.
