Nicholas Watts - John Surtees World Champion - 1964.

In the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend we saw Nico Rosberg take a vital first win of 2015 at Barcelona. Nico commented about the race “We had a perfect weekend here in Spain. We have a fantastic car and everybody did a really great job in the break, so thanks to the team for everything. My start was great for the first time this season. From there I was able to control the pace and I never felt in danger throughout the whole race. I'm so happy about this win. It's still early days in the season so it's good to close the points gap to Lewis (Hamilton). I will continue to push hard - starting with a home race for me in Monaco!”

With an exciting Grand Prix this weekend we're pleased to bring you more great motorsport artwork. This week we want to share with you art by one of the UK's most talented and respected motorsport artists, Nicholas Watts.

Nicholas Watts was born in Tunbridge Wells in 1947 and from an early age regularly visited nearby Brands Hatch with his father. When he was just 16 he completed his first car commission, a Bugatti Type 37A.

This fascinated by the form and function of automobiles continued. He left school at the age of 16 to become an engineering draughtsman at Vauxhall Motors and then later joined the Royal Air Force as a specialist in navigation systems. After his period of military service, Nicholas Watts returned to his passion for motoring art and has since become one of the foremost painters of motor racing art.

John Surtees World Champion - 1964 is available as a Limited Edition Print and is signed by Nicholas Watts and the racing driver featured in the print, John Surtees. The artwork depicts John Surtees on his way to victory at the German Grand Prix in 1964. John became Formula One World Champion in 1964 driving for Scuderia Ferrari. He is shown leading Jim Clark and Dan Gurney in his Type 158 on his way to victory at the German Grand Prix. He remains the only person to have won the World Championship on both two and four wheels.

It's clear to see Nicholas Watts' passion for motorsport in his artworks. His work is characterised by their meticulous realism and atmospheric style. This coupled with his talent as a draughtsman and his unsparing attention to detail, make every single image a historic account of the actual event. His technical grounding and the sense of proportion and perspective that it teaches shines through within all of Nicholas Watts' pictures.

Combining his love of motorsport with a career as an artist, Nicholas Watts has now been painting professionally for more than two decades, producing many limited edition prints and one-off commissioned originals. Nicholas Watts' respected work has enabled him to build strong relationships with a variety of successful racing drivers, team owners and personalities, with the result that most of his prints bear a relevant original signature or two.
