We have yet another new artist to introduce you to! This week Hazel Bowman has joined Union Art and we are delighted to share her work with you. She has exhibited internationally and her Signed Limited Edition Prints are now available through us!
Hazel Bowman is a Scottish figurative artist who specialises in charcoal and mixed media images of dancers. Her work captures the energy and atmosphere of a particular moment in an impressionistic style. Hazel always collaborates with professional dancers ranging from Latvian burlesque dancers to Russian and Argentinean ballet dancers, and the Scottish Ballet. She has also been fortunate to have drawn the rehearsals of the Rambert Dance Company at their studios in London.
Hazel Bowman started her career as a nurse, during which she studied the human form continually sketching whilst learning. After a period of nursing it became apparent that Hazel’s passion was for art and she developed her skill for figurative work.
Passion captures the movement and physical shapes that the male and female dancers create. Hazel also manages to get down on the paper the character of each dancer. Hazel works in the moment, wanting the artwork to evolve as a natural process. She lets the dancers get on with their rehearsals and takes in as much as she can, sketching all the time and taking notes. She also talks a lot to the dancers to find out how they feel when dancing and what they're thinking about. Her work tells a story rather than just being a figure on a page.
