Ray Goldsbrough – Marco Simoncelli
Ray Goldsbrough studied art at the Sunderland School of Art & Industrial Design. He then worked as a graphic artist and illustrator for nearly 30 years until he took the decision to paint professionally. This decision proved to be the right one as commissions for his originals have always kept him busy. Mainly painting in watercolour his work specialises in capturing great sporting moments in motor racing.
The photo realist style of his work really is fantastic. His meticulously painted pictures bring the track to life and have won him fans across the globe. Ray Goldsbrough’s popularity lead to his work being published in 1995 and since then his collection of Limited Edition Prints have become highly sought after.
The artwork of the week this week is the latest release from Ray Goldsbrough and is a tribute to the late great Marco Simoncelli. The Italian born Simoncelli was a highly promising professional motorbike rider who tragically lost his life at the 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix aged just 24. This Limited Edition Print features Marco Simoncelli racing for the Metis Gilera in the 2008 250cc World Championship. The 2008 season saw Simoncelli secure what was to be his only World Championship where a total of 6 race wins and podium finishes saw him finish 37 points ahead of his nearest rival in the Championship standings. This Limited Edition Print is available to purchase from Union Art for £84 and is an edition of 150.
