Bob Brandt's interest in painting and drawing started at an early age and he studied Art to A level, thinking of possibly training as an architect. While he was still at school his work was selected for an open exhibition at the Stockport Art Gallery.
After University, he qualified as a Solicitor and his career in the Law took up the next thirty years. Bob Brandt found time to keep up his painting, however, attending evening classes and making a particular study of the work of Peter Breghel. From this, and the growing up of his own family, developed an interest in recording people and their activities.
More recently he studied Life Painting at the Queen's Road School of Art and Design, Bristol.
Bob Brandt has been painting full time for the past eight years and has had a number of one man and shared exhibitions in the West Country before moving to North Norfolk in 1995. His paintings are now in collections in Europe, India, and Australia as well as in the U.K. He has had his designs accepted for greetings cards by the Paper House Group and Henry Ling and Son Ltd. And publishes his own range of postcards. He writes articles on commission for the Artist's and Illustrators Magazine.
While Bob Brandt greatly enjoys painting portraits and figure work, he also paints animals, boats, landscapes and any other subject that captures his attention. He works mainly in oils and acrylics.
Having helped to run an adult art group in Bristol for several years he now runs the course on " The Craft of Painting" for small groups of students.
