Bob Lees studied at Glasgow School of Art and graduated in 1959. After completing National Service in RAF in Singapore, he qualified as a teacher of art in Glasgow.
Throughout his teaching life he has always painted, being of the belief that an art teacher should also be a practising artist. Now retired from the post of Principal Teacher of Art at Craigmount High School in Edinburgh, he can devote more time and energy to painting. Together with his wife Val (a stained glass artist and teacher) they have renovated various properties in Edinburgh, Arran and the Borders. They have three grown up daughters also in the art world.
Bob Lees paints mostly in acrylics and depicts the many different moods of the Scottish landscape. Bob Lees has had solo exhibitions in Edinburgh and Arran, and exhibited in other galleries (one of his paintings was presented to the late Princess Diana on an official visit to Arran). His work hangs in various private collections in the UK, Europe, Russia and the United States. Bob and Val live in Edinburgh but spend much of their time in their converted church in Corrie on the Isle of Arran.
