Born and bred in the West Country, Garry Floyd is a talented, emerging artist who has already captured the attention of galleries and private collectors stretching from his home town of Minehead in Somerset to England's East Coast, New York and Hong Kong.
Garry Floyd showed great promise in both the visual arts and music as a student, and describes his time at The West Somerset Community College art department as 'the best of my school years'. From here he went on to study art and design Degree at Somerset College Of Art.
And yet it was as the drummer in a Manchester band named The Jackdaws that Garry Floyd spent his early career, fulfilling his long-held ambition of playing to clubs and pubs up and down the UK and to Stadium audiences across Europe. Little did he imagine that when he returned from touring in 2006 he would soon find an appreciative audience for his art as well.
In 2013 Garry Floyd created and illustrated Gilbert and Ginger a charming story about two friends and their families which are now published as limited editions prints.
Here is their story...........Welcome to the family.
The Montgomery Potts and The Von Claremonts
Gilbert Montgomery Potts lives with his wise old Grandad, Montgomery Montgomery Potts and smart as a button granny Wilhelmina Petunia Potts and their inquisitive dog Duke. They live in the South West of England by the seaside in what Grandad calls the 'upper-class part of town', just off the A38.
Grandad was a rear gunner in the Lancaster Bombers during the second world war. and he is now a retired milkman. He spends his days delighting all who'll listen with stories about his time "during the war"
Grandma Potts is a retired cook from the old Ship Inn on the coast but still spends most of her time in the kitchen cooking for Gilbert and Grandad. In her hay day grandma Potts was famous for her signature dish the steak and kidney pie which she still makes but saves for special occasions. Last but not least we have Duke the family Terrier who loves his long walks and adventures but doesn't like grandads war stories.
Gilbert hasn't decided what he wants to be when he grows up but he knows for sure that a rear gunner isn't for him or even a milkman on account that he doesn't like heights or early mornings; for now Gilbert loves exploring with Duke along the walking trails, not just because the spectacular views but because it gives him the chance of bumping into the girl at No14 next door.
Miss Ginger Von Claremont lives with her eccentric Auntie Bertha Von Claremont and their adorable family pet dog Princess Ethel, Auntie Bertha also calls this area 'the upper-class part of town', just off the A38.
Auntie Bertha comes from a wealthy family, The Von Claremonts, she spends her days shopping, making and then eating her special sponge cake, and on Monday's and Tuesday's she meets up with the stepford wives community group, of which she has appointed herself president. She adores spending time with Ginger.
Princess Ethel is the family hound and loves being pampered and enjoys teasing the dog next door.
Ginger loves living by the seaside and dreams of owning her own cake shop one day, she also likes exploring the local walking trails not just for the spectacular views but for the chance of bumping into the boy next door at No12.
Follow Gilbert and Ginger on their personal adventures and see what happens as they grow up? Will they end up together? Who knows.
We hope you enjoy Garry Floyd's illustrations depicting this very charming tale of two families living the South West of England
