Sheila Robinson

Born in Nottingham, 1925, Sheila Robinson attended the art school there prior to training at the Royal College of Art, London. Here she met and married fellow artist Bernard Cheese and encouraged by Edward Bawden she worked on murals for the Festival Of Britain. Edward Bawden also persuaded the couple to move to Great Bardfield where she met Eric Ravilious and where the couple had two children, Chloe and Ben.

Shelia Robinson continued to commute to London where she taught print-making. She also worked as an illustrator producing many booklets for BBC Schools Publications, but also for the Limited Editions Club of Avon, Connecticut, who published a notable Robinson illustrated edition of Sons and Lovers by Lawrence.

Shelia Robinson continued to work at the Royal College of Art until shortly before her death, but she also continued to produce limited edition prints, right through to the early 1980s. Her work is found in several public collections, most notably at the Fry Gallery, Saffron Walden, Essex.
